National Research Council

The project is located on the Santo Spirito island in the Venice lagoon. The main goal is the regeneration of the area through the planning of new facilities for the italian National Research Council.

The island had different uses throughout history (religious, military, residential, warehouse), and it’s now abandoned and in ruin. The project contributes to giving a new identity to this piece of land in the lagoon, projecting it in the international environment thanks to its new function. We create office and research areas as well as residential and retail areas, designing a mixed function environment that is well integrated in the landscape. This project is an example of how an abandoned settlement, located in a stunning natural environment, can be restored and so become a prime location of a productive environment.
